Getting better with HDR

The lake near our house this evening. It's an improvement on yesterday's HDR because I'm now getting to grips with the main settings in the software and also shooting in RAW rather than JPG.

Extreme crop of dragonfly's eye

This is a 4 stack of the dragonfly eye I took the other day uncropped at closest focus, 1:1 with Sigma 105mm lens on Nikon D3100.

The selected area for the closest crop....

 

...gives this! I'm amazed how much detail can be revealed with such a small area of the original image, just with a little interpolation (image resizing) and a high pass filter (sharpening tool) in Photoshop. 

The Joy of Lucy–Richardson deconvolution

I wondered if the same techniques I'm using to process astro images could be used to improve old family photos. The answer is Yes!

Here's a recently discovered one of Dad, with an adaptive Lucy–Richardson deconvolution ;-)

 

More Cromer stitching

Microsoft ICE software really is fantastic, and free too. I took these images of the sky at sunset over Cromer last week:

And dragged them into them into the program, to produce this:
