I have a habit of overinterpreting my data. This leads me to see things which aren't there. Who can forget my annoucement that I had discovered the first ever Resplendent Quetzal in Venezuela? Or the non-existent Horsehead Nebula in Orion?
It seems I've done it again. Now that I've managed to calibrate the spectra, I can identify elements in stars. After finding Hydrogen in Sirius, I let things go to my head and discovered Magnesium (Mg II) in the spectrum, and posted it up on one of the Spectroscopy forums:
However, it's been gently pointed out to me that this is likely to be noise, rather than evidence of Magnesium, so I stacked 2 images together, to average out some of the noise, and the "Magnesium dip" prompty disappeared.
One day I will succeed, but until then I may have to review the 4AoS "publish and be damned" policy.
