The most beautiful of all the British birds! And surely one of the most beautiful birds of the World.
January 6th 2009
It's been a long time coming but I've finally managed to capture a Kingfisher on film.
It's been my favourite bird for as long as I can remember (it's even earned me money: £50 for winning the competition for naming the new building at Enfield College) but on the rare occasions I've seen them, they've flashed past so quickly, I wouldn't have had time to photograph them even if I'd had the equipment.
Well it all came together on Sunday when this little beauty sat still long enough for me to capture a couple of pics with the Casio Exilim. Although it's far from brilliant, it's not half bad considering it was taken at 20X zoom, hand held, and in diabolically poor light at the end of a grey day.
I look forward to being wrong, but I doubt I'll ever get a better shot than this, unless it's from some kind of bird hide on a nature reserve:
Look at those colours. Electric!
