The first butterfly of the year, 15th March 2010

As I say, it's possible that there are more exciting video subjects than stationary butterflies, but it IS the first one of the year, and it does show off the remarkable zoom properties of the Panasonic SDR-S26. 

 In the second half of the clip, I was standing about 8 feet away from the butterfly, but I could still zoom fully to the 70X optical, and you can see individual scales on the blue marking at the bottom of the wings.

The Great Escape, ant style

Uni M bought me an ant farm (she knows the way to my heart)  just one small problem; no ants. Luckily I found some in the garden and enticed them into the farm with honey, stuck the lid on and waiting for them to start building tunnels.

When I came back later, they were all gone. I couldn't see how they had escaped so I put some more in and watched to see what would happen. The weak link in the set up? Air holes!
