This is a vintage ventriloquist's dummy in full working order. Notice from the first photo that he's quite small (I have normal-sized hands ;-)
The mouth is operated by a string at the back.
As you can see, the material is looking a little "tired" but there are no rips, tears or thin patches and the seams are fine.
I bought it on ebay years ago and I seem to remember the seller telling me it was made in the 50s. I'm no expert so I can't give a definitive guide to its origin or age, except to say that this is a genuine vintage item and not a modern copy. And I would say it is a collector's item rather than something to be given to a child.
I've taken advice and it was suggested to me that it was sold as a Charlie McCarthy, probably in the 40's in the USA but another experienced person said it was made by Regal Toys in Canada. I see from a Google search that this company started in 1959 so this could be from that time.
Please ask any questions and I'll try to answer. One further point; I took the photos with a strong flash, which has made the colours seem more vibrant than in reality, in particular the red of the mouth is a little duller than it appears here.
This is a really unusual item with a low starting price. Good luck with bidding!
